Bible Study on the Temptations of Ministry, Including a Blogging Ministry

Hi Everyone, Just wanted to let you know I’ve decided to continue writing Bible study blogs like the series I just finished on weight loss. The next one I’d like to do is on the temptations of ministry.

I’ll try to have a general post on each temptation with ideas of how to fight it – and then show how the temptation affects both a blogging ministry and  a church (or non-church) ministry.

I’ll try to include both Bible studies and opportunities for journaling plus questions for discussion so we can learn from each other.

I’ll start the Bible study September 4th as I want to spend the rest of the summer, not only enjoying my family and the summer, but also doing some marketing for I Deserve a Donut, the renewing of the mind/iPhone app i just launched. Plus I need to take a break from blogging just for my own walk with God – I’ll be sharing more about that in the Bible study.

Hope you all have a great summer!

P.S. If there’s anything special you’d like me to address in this study, please let me know by leaving a comment or e-mailing me at barb.raveling@gmail.com (don’t forget the dot between Barb and Raveling).

That’s a really interesting study idea. I think this would be so pertinent to so many people. And amazingly, I don’t see many people talking about it!

Thanks for the encouragement, Loren. I’ve been renewing my mind about writing in general for the past year, and blogging in particular for the past few months so I’m looking forward to writing about the subject.

Thanks, T.C. I’m loving your Bonhoeffer “The Cost of Discipleship” series. Loving the book too! I skipped the last couple of chapters so I could catch up with your blog – will come back to them later.

A Bible study on ministry sounds like a great idea. Especially if you include the time and effort spent blogging. Nothing like social media to promote one’s ministry, but detract from quality time with the Lord. Two thumbs up on The Cost of Discipleship. :) enjoy the rest of your summer.

Blogging in general has been a distraction for me in many ways – I’m writing this Bible study as much for myself as anyone else! Now that I think of it, that was king of the feeling I had at different stages of writing Freedom from Emotional Eating – I’ll write the study and then do it so I can solve my own problems!

What a great idea for a series/Bible Study. The temptations for those in leadership are huge and numerous. I’m looking forward to it! Meanwhile enjoy your family and hopefully a little r and r. Blessings

Thanks, Deb – I’m enjoying them! The weather here has been gorgeous and we’re planning a couple of different backpack trips before the kids go off to college. I love having my kids around!

I love the idea, too. The ministry I have outside of homeschooling is a constant struggle for me. I feel like I have a handle on what the Lord wants me to do and then I change my mind again. More than anything, I would love to talk to other Christian bloggers about it. Looking forward to it, Barb!

Me, too, Melanie – I’m hoping we can all learn from each other.
