Do you ever find yourself working on a goal but secretly thinking, I’ll never be able to do this? In today’s episode of the Christian Habits Podcast, Dr. Melanie Wilson shares three mindset shifts that can help us accomplish goals.
Here are the three mindset shifts we’ll be discussing on today’s podcast:
- You don’t have to feel like working on it.
- Let go of all or nothing thinking.
- Believe that you can do it with God’s help if He has called you to do it.
Melanie also discusses what to do if you’re not sure whether or not God has called you to do something.

What a great podcast! I really enjoy your interviews with Dr. Melanie. Her advice to get going even if we don’t feel like it, especially resonated with me. Thanks for bringing us more great content, Barb! God Bless!
I thought that was great advice too, Virginia. I love how practical Melanie is!
Barb,
I have been enjoying your Taste for Truth podcast. I own “I Deserve a Donut”, but haven’t yet gone through your taste for truth or renewing your mind project bible studies. I am currently going through The Revelation Wellness book with a friend. Your books are next on my list.
I find the time I break my boundaries most is when I couldn’t get enough sleep and the next day I am exhausted and have to stay awake for a certain time frame. Then I eat and eat and eat to keep myself awake. How does one break this problem. It’s at least once a month when I am on worship for our church as we rent our building and have to set up for two services and practice so my alarm
Goes off at 4:30am. I try to take a nap, but my body struggles to nap. I feel like this sabotage messes me up. Lately it’s happened more often as hot flashes have been waking me up about every two hours at night and I can barely function the next day. This is happening about two or three times a week now.
Can you help with any suggestions?
Thank you and grateful for any suggestions,
Patty in WA
Wow, that’s super hard, Patty, as I know the temptation to overeat when you’re sleepy plus I know how discouraging it is to not be sleeping well! I think the main thing is to recognize at a deep level that overeating won’t make you more energetic in the long run – it makes you less energetic. Yes, it may help you stay awake in the moment, but so would caffeine – and both are bad for you if you overindulge. I wonder if it would also help to recognize that certain situations are critical to stay awake – such as driving a car – but not most other situations.
Also, I wonder if it would help to renew your mind when you wake up at night – do one of the sets of questions from I Deserve a Donut. I also have some tired eating questions that aren’t in the book. I’ll include a link to that here: https://barbraveling.com/2014/07/01/do-you-eat-when-youre-tired-8-questions-that-will-help/
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I’m sure this will be incredibly helpful. ❤️
Wonderful! I’m glad it will help!
