Do you struggle to memorize Scripture? I do. For years I thought I couldn’t memorize it because I don’t have a good memory. But for the last couple of months–ever since I read Glenna Marshall’s book on memorizing Scripture–I’ve been going great guns with Scripture memory and love it!
If you’re someone like me who has struggled for years to commit God’s Word to memory, my latest episode of The Christian Habits Podcast (links below) will help. My guest, Glenna Marshall, has a new book out about the power and unexpected blessings of memorizing Scripture. It has been life-changing for her, and I can already tell it will be life-changing for me!

What a great podcast! Apparently I’m a unicorn, because memorization is pretty easy for me, and I enjoy doing it. My issue is finding the discipline to actually DO. IT. You wouldn’t think that be the case, but it’s the same with exercise for me: I actually love exercise, but also don’t make it a priority. I always like I “should” be doing something else that seems more urgent or important at the moment. It’s the old “I’ll do it later” syndrome. ;)
Anyway, thank you, Barb, for another wonderful podcast – they just keep getting better and better! 🩷
Aww, you’re so nice to say that. Thank you, Ali! That is so great that you find it easy! I have to say though that I’m finding it easier with that memorization app. I do it sometimes along with my quiet time, but I also do it sometimes in the afternoon when I just need a little time with God. It’s a great way to visit with Him to pray through the Scriptures I’m memorizing. But I also just realized when I read your comment, that I was doing it every day in the beginning and now I’m not – so I guess I struggle with the same thing! I did notice there was a streak feature on the app where it tells you how many days you do it without missing – but unfortunately I’m not motivated by streaks! :( So glad you enjoyed the podcast, and have a happy Thanksgiving!
I’m so thankful for this podcast. I love all of your books, too. I’m going to start with food boundaries in January. I’m recovering from my second knee replacement surgery two weeks ago. I’m starting tonight to memorize Romans 8. I’m so thankful I found you. It was a God thing!!!
So glad you’re enjoying the podcast and books, Mary! January sounds like the perfect time to start with food boundaries. :) January 1 is even on a Monday!! Although it is a holiday …. I hope your recovery goes well from your knee surgery and so glad you’re beginning a Bible memory project! Will be perfect for your new following-your-boundaries journey!
Barb I love your site, books and podcast! Thank you so much for all you do! I’m currently using a different scripture memory app, Verse Locker. I’d like to try this Verses app – I have an Android phone and don’t see a link and can’t find it in the play store – do you know if it is available for Android users?
Hi Marisa, Someone else just told me they were having the same problem finding it for Android. I’m afraid it may not be available for Android phones. :(
I hope you find another app that works well – you could also try to find the creator of this app and ask them if they plan an android version. I know with my Donut app, I had it out on iOS for a long time before I did the Android one. It’s expensive to make apps and a different programming language so I think that’s why you don’t always see an app available in both formats.
If it’s not available, I would try out the 3 most popular ones on Android and see which memory features/games they have that are the most helpful. For me all the little activities they have (such as typing the first letter of each word and then they beep me when I get it wrong) are the most helpful for memorizing! I hope you find one that works well!
After I replied to you, I Googled it quick and found this link: https://www.biblememorygoal.com/memory-methods/best-bible-memory-apps/
Your app actually looks a lot like the Verses app! And it also looks like Verses is only available for iPhone according to this article. :(
