An interview with Karina, who is doing a renewing of the mind project on weight loss.
I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of coaching, so at the end of our online class for The Renewing of the Mind Project last month, I asked if anyone would be interested in a free coaching call and also be willing to tape the call for a possible podcast.
I’m so happy that Karina volunteered as I had a wonderful time visiting with her and I think our conversation will be helpful to anyone struggling with either weight loss or establishing a renewing of the mind habit.
I hope to play some other coaching sessions on podcasts down the road at some point. If anyone would be interested in a free coaching session, please let me know. It could be for any project–emotions, habits, goals, or weight loss.
Here are a few of the things we’ll be talking about on today’s podcast:
- How to develop a consistent renewing-of-the-mind habit.
- Lies we believe that keep us from renewing of our minds.
- How to use the starting a habit questions and Bible verses in The Renewing of the Mind Project to help establish a renewing of the mind habit.
- The thoughts that precede a binge.
- What to do if you can’t renew your mind right away after you break your boundaries.
- How to renew your mind if you’re using calories or Weight Watcher’s boundaries.
- How to renew your mind if you have young kids at home.
- Wanting a fun, problem-free life and how that interferes with weight loss.

Also wanted to let everyone know I’m having a few problems with my blog lately – hope to get that cleared up soon, and also working on a new blog design!

Great point about wanting to not have conflict. There are so many ways to deal with that, things that we push under the rug, habits we turn to etc. Discipline is not easy!
For me, I have to change my mind about what it is I like. The gift of free will is amazing beyond belief.
Barb Raveling says
That’s a great idea to change your mind about what you like. I’m wondering if I could do that sometimes just by focusing on being thankful. Thanks for the idea!

Sometimes the food we eat (like junk food, fast food) can make one physically addicted. Food manufacturers have made it so on purpose. Also, REAL food can allow for a clear mind, less cravings and overall health. I would encourage Karina to focus on the quality of her food ALONG with renewing her mind (which is very important as well if not more). Great podcast. Thanks for what you do.

Thanks, Laura. I appreciate your desire to help! And glad you enjoyed the podcast. It was so fun to visit with Karina. I love podcast interviews as I always feel like I have a new friend by the end of the podcast, not to mention how much I learn from the person I’m interviewing. Thanks for commenting!

Barb AND Karina…
thanks so much for sharing…not always easy to share the struggles with the victories…but that’s what I found most helpful on this podcast. For you, Karina, the amount of weight is discouraging…for me, the amount of time/history of my struggle is overwhelming…so it helped to hear your story and Barb’s tips/encouragement.
Cheering you BOTH on.
Barb says
Thanks for that encouragement, Becca. That’s interesting what you said. It’s true that if we’ve been struggling with it forever, even if it’s not that many pounds, it still seems overwhelming. Thank God we have Him to help us with the struggle.
Barb says
Hmm, looks like I need to figure out how to get my face to show up on this new commenting system!
Karina says
Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! Love and appreciate you Barb!

Thanks, Karina! It was wonderful having you on the podcast!
