Perhaps you’ve heard me talk about truth journaling over and over, yet you still wonder: is it really that important? Maybe you’ve tried it and it hasn’t worked. Or you want to try it but can’t make yourself do it. Or maybe you don’t feel like you know how to do it.
Well today on the Taste for Truth Podcast (links below), I speak with Tami who has discovered the profound impact of consistent renewing and truth journaling. Talking with Tami was so personally inspiring, I have made a fresh commitment to more consistent renewing myself! I hope you’ll be inspired as well when you listen to the podcast!
What We Discussed on the Podcast
- Why Tami nearly gave up on truth journaling when she first tried it
- Tami’s particular boundaries which are the keto diet (no sugar)
- How sometimes it is okay to modify boundaries once a goal is reached
- How different seasons of life may bring us back to difficulties with eating
- That the real end goal is a closer relationship with Jesus, not a different number on the scale
- Tami’s success with renewing three times a day
- Why it’s important to consider the lies we learned growing up (even if they’re not food-related)
- The added difficulty of living in an age of instant gratification
- Making renewing a priority
- The importance of a renewing commitment
- The inevitable peace that comes as we renew, follow through on our commitments, and draw closer to God
- Learning to rely on God in the stressful moments of daily life (rather than running to food)

Hi Barb,
Please tell me what area ( and which book) Tami is referring to when she said in the Coaching call
pod cast (Preserving The Truth Journaling ) Feb 22, 2023 /Minute 26 the 100 things to renewing the mind.
I am thinking she was referring to the IDAD book because, I do not see in any of your books in the Contents 100 ways to renew your mind.
I apologize that I seem to have comprehension issue in understanding the Renewing the Mind and the Truth Journaling . I have really been struggling as I am doing this alone . I wanted a group although I am not on FB.
The 2 girls I started TFT with dropped out . I finished the TFT book and have
the new book and SGTEE and FFEE and would like you to recommend which one for me to do next Please. Many Many Thank Barb

Hi Robin, She was talking about the 100 renewing exercises in Say Goodbye to Emotional Eating. If you have the paperback book, they are pages 81-258 in the book. I’m sorry your two other people dropped out of the study. That makes it hard!
I would start SGTEE next. You could go ahead and start doing the renewing exercises as you read the book – no need to read pages 1-80 before you start doing the exercises. I’ve had a lot of people tell me they’ve been helping them develop a renewing habit!
I’ll pray that God will help you get started and gain some traction and that He will pour out truth!

I figured it out – (Its on the cover )dahhh . Thank you for your kind response. I am beginning the SGTEE today with the Lord.
I am improving and praise God for the work He is doing through you.
Love you a bunch Sister

I just found your pod cast today by just scrolling. What a great pod cast! I’ve just “met you” today and I already love you!! You are so easy to understand. I will be buying your book SGTEE. When I look at my weight loss and one of your other guests mentioned it but it was not discussed further is: the weight I want to get back to is when I was living a very sinful life. How do I look forward to being 30 lbs lighter and not think I’ll be that girl again? I need to find out how to let go of that so I can move forward. Currently I feel it’s too hard to loose weight and do I really deserve it.

Hi Jill, I’m so glad you like the podcast! I think you could address both those issues with truth journaling, which I talk about in the book. I would also take a look at the renewing exercises in the body image section of that book as that will be helpful. Here’s how I might truth journal those beliefs though!
Belief: If I get that skinny again, I’ll go back to my sinful lifestyle.
Truth: A number on the scale doesn’t determine my behavior. I’m a completely different person now than I was back then! God will help me continue to follow Him, no matter what my size. Also, if I find myself having new temptations at that size, I can renew my mind and deal with those temptations.
Belief: I don’t deserve to lose weight because _________________
Truth: Weight loss isn’t something you deserve or don’t deserve. It’s a benefit of consistently following an eating plan that will help me lose the weight. It’s not a reward for living a life where I never sinned! In fact if it was, everyone would be overweight!
Belief: It’s too hard to lose weight.
Truth: It’s hard, but it’s not TOO hard! And God can help me do hard things! I’ll just have to put in the renewing time and He will change my thoughts. Will that take a lot of time? Yes. Will it be worth it? Again yes! It’s worth putting out effort for good goals!
Hope this helps! And enjoy the book!
